Ja Morant demonstrates why a'good person with a gun' can never be Black.

On “40 Bars,” NBA great Allen Iverson rapped, “Man enough to pull a gun, be man enough to squeeze it.”

This was two weeks before Iverson's 2000-01 NBA MVP season. Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies' 23-year-old outstanding point guard, was 1 year old.

Morant's game now resembles Iverson's. Ja, with his multicolored dreadlocks, joyful smile, and trademark sneaker, embodies the next generation of NBA superstars.

But his explosive athletic talent, reminiscent of Iverson, comes with the imagined threat of the Black gangster.

On March 4, 2023, Morant broadcast an Instagram Live video of him showing a gun at a Denver strip club.

It's unlawful to carry a firearm while intoxicated in Colorado, an open carry state.

Though Morant was never charged with a crime, the NBA punished him eight games for "conduct detrimental to the league."

On May 14, 2023, another Instagram Live video showed Morant and his companions dancing to rap music in a parked car with a gun.
